Sports Update for March 13

The Gators won two of three games last week to improve their record to 8-11-1. After starting off the week with a 12-8 loss to Bryant and Stratton on March 8, they bounced back with a doubleheader sweep of Christendom two days later.

In the opener of the doubleheader, held at Deer Park, the Gators used a nine-run sixth inning to spur them to a 15-4 victory. Danny Horowitz, Lamon Lyles and Michael Adams all had two hits, and the team stole eight bases. Bailey Hudgins gave up one run on no hits in two innings, striking out three.

The second game was closer, but the Gators came away with a 5-1 victory. Peyton Thomas got the start on the mound, going four innings. He gave up one run on three hits and struck out seven. Jude Morton, Will Michalowicz, Aydan Harmon, and Adams each had two hits.

The weekend before, the Gators went 1-2 against Rockingham Community College. On March 5, Morton hit a three-run HR in the bottom of the 12th for a 10-7 victory over the Eagles. Morton, Adams and Nate Sherman had multiple hits in the game.

They lost 10-4 and 9-2 to the Eagles on March 4.

This week, the Gators are scheduled to play six games:

March 15: a doubleheader at Richard Bland College (Prince George), 10 a.m.

March 16: 9-inning game vs. Finger Lakes (N.Y.) College at Deer Park, 5:30 p.m.

March 18: a doubleheader at Surry Community College (Dobson, N.C.), 1 p.m.

March 19: 9-inning game at Surry CC, 11 a.m.
